Overall Scale of Power Grid

 

By the end of 2018, the circuit length of transmission lines of 35kV and above in China reached 1,890 thousand kilometers, increased by 3.7% over the previous year, among which the circuit length of transmission of 220kV and above reached 730 thousand kilometers, increased by 5.8%. The capacity of substation equipment of 35kV and above reached 7,000GVA, increased by 5.4% over the previous year; among which the capacity of substation equipment of 220kV and above reached 4,300GVA, increased by 6.0%.

 

Table 1-6 shows the circuit length of transmission lines and capacity of substation equipment of 35kV and above by the end of 2018.

 

 

Transmission Capacity

 

Power grids in all regions within China has already been interconnected except for Taiwan province. By the end of 2018, the national capacity of trans-regional transmission reached 136.15GW, of which the trans-regional grid-to-grid transmission capacity reached 122.81GW, and trans-regional point-to-grid transmission capacity reached 13.34GW.

 

Transmission Flow

 

The national trans-regional power transmission in 2018 reached 477.1TWh, with an increase of 12.7% over the previous year, 0.6 percentage point higher than the previous year, which was mainly boosted by the rapid growth in power consumption demand, coal control measures in the eastern regions, as well as the enlarged scale of west-to-east new energy power transmission. Figure 1-19 shows the trans-regional power supply and its growth rate from 2006 to 2018.

 

 

Distribution

 

By the end of 2018, the circuit length of power distribution lines of 35-100kV reached 1,170 thousand kilometers, increased by 2.4% over the previous year; among which the distribution circuit length of 110kV (including 66kV) reached 650 thousand kilometers, increased by 3.4%. The circuit length of distribution lines below 35kV reached 510 thousand kilometers, increased by 1.0%. The capacity of substation equipment of 35-110kV reached 2,700GVA, increased by 4.5% over the previous year, among which the capacity of substation equipment of 110kV (including 66kV) reached 2,200GVA, increased by 6.0%. The capacity of substation equipment of 35kV reached 500GVA, increased by 4.1%

 

Figure 1-21 and Figure1-22 show the circuit length of distribution and the substation equipment capacity and its growth in major provinces respectively.
