CTG-Built Isimba Hydropower Plant Commissioned

Isimba Hydropower Plant in Uganda had commissioned all of its four units on January 14 local time, 48 days ahead of schedule and marking another milestone after the successful commissioning of its first unit on December 31, 2018.

The commissioning of the No.4 unit only took engineers 68 hours after they started the process of filling the water to the unit, setting a record.

After the successful commissioning, the hydropower plant will now provide Uganda with clean energy and serve as a new achievement of the Sino-African cooperation in the new era.

The Isimba Hydropower Plant, dubbed the pearl on the White Nile, has a total installed capacity of 183mw. China International Water & Electric Corporation, under the China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG), is the EPC contractor of the project, which encompasses the power house that is equipped with four sets of axial flow oar water turbine units, spillways, rock-fill dams on the left and right banks , the switch station, and the 42km 132kv transmission and transformation line.
