SPIC President Meng Zhenping Meets South African President Jacob Zuma
President of SPIC Meng Zhenping met South African President Jacob Zuma on May 26, 2016 and exchanged in-depth views concerning cooperation in nuclear power and conventional energy.
Mr. Meng briefed President Zuma of the progress of cooperation between SPIC and South African nuclear energy enterprises in the 9,600 MW nuclear new-build program, and expressed SPIC's willingness to assist South Africa to realize its industrialization goals by means of construction of nuclear power project which enables South Africa to meet its demands on clean energy while gaining access to advanced technologies. As one of the integrated energy corporations on the Fortune Global 500 list, SPIC would also intend to work with its South African partners on investing in and building power projects in South Africa and the African Continent to develop African infrastructure and implement the outcomes from the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
President Zuma noted that the ultimate goal to develop nuclear power projects in South Africa is to build the country's capabilities in construction and management of nuclear power plants, and that we can learn a lot from the best practices of our Chinese counterpart, and we expect more exchanges with SPIC in the future in respect to specific issues. President Zuma browsed album of South African trainees who are learning and living in China, and expressed his gratitude to SPIC's contributions for development of nuclear power industry in South Africa.
