The 22nd Asia-Pacific Electrical Conference was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

On 18th September, the 22nd Asia-Pacific Electrical Conference was opened in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The chairman of the China Electricity Council, Liu Zhenya, attended the power industry delegation. The conference was co-sponsored by the Asia Pacific Electricity Association and the Malaysian Power Company (TNB), with the theme of “reimagining the future of public utilities”. More than 30 countries and regions about 2000 people attended the conference.

Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech. She said that the future lies in the electrification of new industries and the integration of transportation and power industries. The challenge we face is to provide low-carbon and low-cost electricity, the power industry. Efficiency should be improved, renewable energy should be developed and new models of consumption in the power industry should be established through the active participation of consumers. The government has no plans to pursue nuclear power to generate electricity in Malaysia, amid the risk associated with it, said Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. He said although the cost of energy production through nuclear power was way cheaper, there was still this lack of knowledge in its handling, especially the safer way to dispose nuclear waste.

Liuzhenya delivered a speech at the opening ceremony to elaborate China's power transformation and development and global energy Internet outlook. He expressed the hope that all parties will work together to promote energy and Internet construction in Asia and the world, accelerate the transformation of energy transformation, and jointly contribute to the bright future of the Asia-Pacific region and all mankind.

At the meeting, China successfully bid to host the 24th APTA Congress in 2022, and was elected chairman of APTA in 2021-2022, and was re-elected member of the Executive Committee of APTA.
